Luxury Archaeological Exploration (10 days)

Detailed Itinerary:

Day 1: We will give you an introduction on the Stone Age history of Namibia. Then we will visit the fine exhibition on Stone Age and its rock art in the museum. After that we drive into our study area. Here we stay in a close by lodge for the duration of our exploration. (Lunch & Dinner)

Day 2: Early the morning we drive to some exquisite rock engravings, rock painting and stone tools for you to see what to look for and lay hands on Stone Age. We spend the day here. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 3 - 7: Today we start with our archaeological explorations in the Namibian Great Escarpment, which separates the Namib Desert from the inner highlands. Stone Age people occupied this mountainous area for about 2 million years. For that reason we might find an Early Stone Age axe or cleaver next to Middle Stone Age giant flakes and all this in close vicinity of Late Stone Age microlithic arrow points, ostrich egg shell jewellery and other tools. We might even find some undiscovered rock paintings in shelters where the floor is covered with flakes and the remains of the old people’s last meal and fire.

We search the area in small independent operating groups to look out for undiscovered sites of Stone Age. Those we find will be named, registered and inserted on our exploration map with the aid of GPS. In the evening we will put the data into our bush computer and celebrate the discoveries with a nice cool beer. The groups will operate independently according own time schedule.

For a change in between you may join a game drive or enjoy a dip in the cool pool. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 8: Today we drive through the Namib Naukluft National Park until we reach the Atlantic Ocean. At Swakopmund we stay over for a two- day brake. Here you may dive in the cool ocean water or stroll around in the beautiful little town of Swakopmund. We stay at a nice guest- house in town and many optional activities are available at own cost. Please let us know and we will book that for you in advance. (Breakfast included, but Lunch and Dinner at guest own account.)

Day 9: We visit the informative Swakopmund Museum with its very good Stone Age exhibition, drive to see the Flamingos at the Walfish Bay Lagoon and have a sun downer on a dune at the shore. We stay over at the same guest- house and many optional activities are available at own cost. (Breakfast included, but Lunch and Dinner at guest own account.)

Day 10: We drive back after breakfast (included) to Windhoek and hand over our collected information to the archaeologist. Every participant will get a CD copy of the information we had collected as well a copy of our exploration map. But first we shall stop in between at Okahandja Auberge Omulonga for an excellent lunch (included) and a last dip in the restaurant pool. We shall take you to the airport.
